Timeless wisdom lived through fatherhood
DAILY PRACTICE
SOLVE ET COAGULA
Dissolution And Integration
Story
There is a moment that happens in almost every divorce. It doesn't happen in the lawyer's office. It doesn't happen when the papers are signed. It happens on an ordinary Friday, when a father pulls up to a house that used to be his, knocks on a door and waits for his children to come out with a bag packed for the weekend.
The life he knew has dissolved completely. And standing on that doorstep, he has no idea yet what it is shaping into.
Nowadays, in social media one can see the angry posts, the vague captions about betrayal, the subtle war fought through children who didn't ask to be soldiers. What rarely gets documented is the quieter, harder work happening in those fathers who decide, in the middle of that dissolution, to become something their children can still rely on.
The alchemists worked for centuries trying to transform base metals into gold. At the center of their entire philosophy was one principle: Solve et Coagula. Dissolve and reform (recombine).
T
hey understood that nothing new and refined could be built without first allowing the old form to break down completely. The dissolution was not the failure. The dissolution was the necessary first phase of transformation.
A family that separates does not stop being a family. It dissolves into a new form one that has never existed before and has no map. The question is what the father chooses to bring into the new form when it begins to integrate.
That is the gold the alchemists were looking for.
Shift
It dissolved into a form that has never existed before. What it becomes depends entirely on what you choose to carry into it.
Action (Today, With Your Children)
Today, do one thing that belongs entirely to the new form not the old one.
A ritual that is yours and your children’s alone.
A meal, a walk, a joke, a question you ask every time you're together.
Don't try to recreate what was. Create what is possible now.
Let them feel that what remains between you is not a remnant. It is a foundation.
Gold is not found.
It is forged through what endures the dissolution.
