Timeless wisdom lived through fatherhood

DAILY PRACTICE

MUNAY

Love, Willingness and Power

Story

There is a scene in Interstellar movie that is impossible to forget. The dad is leaving. He has to. The mission is bigger than the moment and he knows it. His daughter doesn't know it. She is around ten years old and all she knows is that her father is walking out the door and she cannot stop him.

She screams. She throws things. She says words she doesn't mean. The frustration in her body has nowhere to go so it goes everywhere.

The father doesn't match her. He doesn't shut her down. He doesn't explain the mission or defend his decision or raise his voice to restore order. He gets on his knees and stays in the storm with her. He holds the moment even though it is breaking him too.

A father who did not flinch when his daughter emotions became too big. That steadiness became his daughter anchor across time and space.

In the Andean tradition of the Q'ero people of Peru, Munay is a foundational principle of life. Often translated as love. Munay is love that take action. Love that chooses to remain steady when everything inside you wants to react.

A father's frustration is not the enemy. It is the key to understand yourself as human. What matters is what you do in the three seconds between feeling it and expressing it.

Those three seconds is where Munay lives.

Shift

Your children worst moments will always arrive when your patience is lowest. That is not bad timing. That is the practice.

Action (Today, With Your Children)

Today, when frustration rises before you speak, bring awareness of your both feet into the floor.

Feel the ground. One breath that reaches your belly.
Then respond to your children from that place.

Not from the frustration. From what is underneath it.
Three seconds. That is all Munay asks for.

The fire doesn't burn steady on its own.
It needs a father who tends it every day.
