Timeless wisdom lived through fatherhood
DAILY PRACTICE
HYGEE
Warmth That Is Created
Story
One night at home, the day had been long for all of us. It was already getting dark outside. After dinner, we stayed in the living room. My daughter and my wife sat at couch, drawing. I was nearby, preparing a hot tea. Nothing was planned. No one was in a hurry.
We were just there, sharing the same space. No screens.
At some point, I noticed something that usually goes unnoticed.
The calm of the moment. The feeling of home and the quiet sense that nothing else was needed.
In Denmark, the word Hygge comes from an old root meaning to comfort or give shelter to the spirit. It describes this kind of warmth created through presence, simplicity, and shared space.
I have noticed society nowadays thinks connection needs more, something extra. An activity, a plan or a reason. So they fill the moment. Distractions, entertainment. Trying to make it better. The children experiences are simpler. When you make space, they settle into it.
Shift
Connection appears when you allow the moment to be enough.
Action (Today, With Your Children)
Create one simple moment of Hygge. Do this:
Disconnect for a moment from distractions. Don’t improve the moment.
Sit with your children and share something simple: a warm drink, listen to a story they want to tell you, or have a conversation.
Allow the moment to be simple, present, and unhurried. There is no need to plan something “special.”
Let the moment complete itself.
The warmest childhood memories are born in quiet moments where the soul remembers the shared embrace at home
